Land, Sea, Air is a collection of works created during the StudioWorks Artist-in-Residence Program, an initiative of the Tides Institute & Museum of Art in Eastport, ME. Works in the exhibition include a puzzle project containing 91 small drawings, mixed-media paintings, digital prints, and woven textiles influenced by Eastport’s social networks and natural ecology. Inspired by conversations, observations, and found-objects gathered along the shore and nearby trails, each project includes materials and content collected from Eastport’s scenery and community. Each work is site-specific and involved community engagement. For example, Community Web is made from all donated material from locals and visitors of Eastport in a community-based effort to construct a symbolic web of life together. The digital prints and paintings contain objects that were gifted or found by studio visitors.
