Land, Sea, Air is a collection of works created during the StudioWorks Artist-in-Residence Program, an initiative of the Tides Institute & Museum of Art in Eastport, ME. Works in the exhibition include a puzzle project containing 91 small drawings, mixed-media paintings, digital prints, and woven textiles influenced by Eastport’s social networks and natural ecology. Inspired by conversations, observations, and found-objects gathered along the shore and nearby trails, each project includes materials and content collected from Eastport’s scenery and community. Each work is site-specific and involved community engagement.

For example, the Community Web consists of all donated materials from locals and visitors of Eastport, unifying the threads of community into a symbolic web of life. The digital prints and paintings contain some objects that were gifted or found by studio visitors. The puzzle entitled Land-Sea-Air contains images of the wetlands, ocean, fields, wildlife, and people of Eastport. Funding for StudioWorks comes from generous support from ARTPLACE, private funders and individual donors.
